Lisa Mannion

Meet Lisa Mannion, aka Ukulady Lisa, an Army veteran, singer-songwriter, performer, and music educator with a heart for veteran mental health and music education. As the creator of Strumming for Wellness, Lisa leads group ukulele lessons that teach simple chords and uplifting melodies designed to spark joy, creativity, and healing. She’s had the honor of working with military nonprofits like the Wounded Warrior Project, Allenforce, and Chicago’s American Legions.

Lisa’s musical journey took flight as a vocalist and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division’s All American Chorus. After her military service, she returned to sweet home Chicago, where she now writes and performs original music on the ukulele that blends folk, rock, and blues.

One of her proudest moments came in 2024 when she placed 1st in the National Songwriter competition at the VA Creative Arts Festival. This year, Lisa will be taking her winning song to the stage in Indianapolis, where the festival is hosting her for an entire week. It’s an incredible opportunity and a testament to the limitless power of music!

No matter where you are in your musical journey, Lisa believes that anyone can play the ukulele—and she’s here to prove it one strum at a time.
